Prayer Life

Prayer is key part of our life together. Prayer occurs in various places and times as people gather.

Each Sunday as part of our worship the congregation are invited to take one or more prayer cards from the basket as they leave and use these to pray for an individual (first name only), a situation or world issue. The following Sunday these are placed in a basket as our offering prayers and the cycle begins all over again. This is a key part of our prayer rhythm together.

Quarterly Prayer Gatherings - THRESHOLD

Threshold is the name given to our quarterly prayer gatherings held at the church. This is an opportunity open to all to come and pray earnestly around a particular theme or topic by standing in prayer at a threshold for others. The prayer time is dynamic in so far as it various in format, with prayers, reading and song. It is unpressurised and those who might feel unsure or new as Christians have said that they actually enjoyed this time. Look ou for this event notice throughout the year and give it a try.

Contemplative prayer groups

The contemplative prayer groups are organised by Sarah Dickinson and meet in the third week of most months, on the Mondays at 2.00pm and on the Tuesday evenings at 7.30pm. The core of the meeting lasts just 45 minutes but there is the option to stay on for some fellowship over a cup of tea or coffee afterwards if you have time.

The Monday and Tuesday meetings cover the same material which is usually developed around a theme. The typical pattern is that we begin with 10 minutes or so of centring then divide the rest of the time between two reflective and varied prayer exercises; one which opens up the theme in a more general way and one which then looks to take that to a deeper more personal level. There is also some time to share our responses to what we have experienced in prayer, if we wish.

The groups do not always meet in the same venue as regular members of the group share the hosting. It is therefore essential to check the church bulletin for venue details. If you would like to be kept informed about the meetings, please advise Sarah who will make sure that you receive a text message or email reminder the week before the meetings which will also confirm the venue.

It is important to add that, unlike many small groups, we offer this meeting as an oasis and opportunity to be refreshed for anyone who can come along on any one occasion. You do not have to attend regularly to feel able to come just when you can. However, like all small groups, should we share anything personal with the group then that is treated confidentially.

Contemplative Prayer encourages a closer and more attentive walk with God. God is present by His Spirit in every moment of our day and longs for us to know His presence and the blessing He pours out by it in love, joy, hope, peace, faith, discernment and so on if only we would take the time to slow down, notice and listen for Him. So we gather in the expectation of encounter with one another but, above all, encounter with the Living Spirit of God. We would love you to join us.

It is very helpful when the leader does not also have to host, so offers to host the meetings are appreciated.
